Complete Dentures
If you have lost all your teeth, complete dentures may be an option for you! These are made to replace all of your teeth on either your upper or lower dental arch. They are typically made out of acrylic resin and are fabricated to mimic natural teeth and gum tissue. They can be removed to clean and are able to drastically improve the appearance and function of your smile.
We will be sure to answer all of your questions ahead of time in order to ensure that dentures are the right option for you. We will also explain how to care for your dentures and keep them looking and feeling as good as possible.
Frequently Asked Questions
Technically yes, you can. But we don’t recommend it. It is important to give your gums, soft tissue and teeth (if you have some remaining) a break during the night. This prevents sore spots and fungal infections from developing. We recommend you clean your dentures before bed and store them in a secure container overnight.
We don’t recommend using toothpaste to clean them. Some toothpastes are quite abrasive and can scratch your dentures. Denture cleaners can be purchased at a drugstore. We also encourage patients to bring their dentures with them to their dental appointments so that we can clean them using our ultrasonic cleaner.
Patients may experience some discomfort when they first start wearing their new dentures. It is common to need a few appointments to make fine adjustments to the fit. However, once your dentures are fitting properly you should not have any discomfort.
Absolutely! Every patient is different, but it is normal for it to take weeks to months to get used to wearing, speaking and eating with your new dentures. We recommend taking your time getting used to them. Once you have adjusted to wearing them, they will feel second nature to you.
Yes, sometimes after wearing your dentures for months or years they may require minor adjustments. We are always happy to make these adjustments for you.
Proper Denture Care
Dentures should be cleaned with denture cleaner and a soft toothbrush. It is ideal to clean them after each meal and remove them at night. We can also clean your dentures at your check-up appointments using our ultrasonic cleaner. We recommend that you:
Use a non-abrasive denture cleaner
Use a soft denture brush
Do not try to adjust them yourself
Do not wear overnight
Do not use bleach to try and whiten them
Store in a safe container overnight
